Bowfront Marquee?
« on: October 06, 2005, 12:38:53 pm »
I've seen one picture of a game with a bowfront marquee.  Meaning that the marquee looks like part of the wall of a cylinder standing on end.

I can't sit at KLOV and hammer their site, sifting through random images.  I was hoping that some folks here could suggest the name of cabs that they know have a bowfront marquee.

I'm contemplating doing it on my build when I get around to it.

Any opinions on it? Or problems in executing it?

Robocop

I think one or two people have done the bow front.  Can't remember who offhand.

Robocop and Bad Dudes have a marquee that not only curves out, but up at the top as well.

There's one project in here called metal arcade, or metal mame.  It has a nice subtle outward curving marquee.

Apearantly Data East Cabs have them.  I searched KLOV by every letter and sorted by manufactuer, looking for Data East and could only find a couple of examples whose images don't show the curve well.

Still could use some examples.

Metal Mame, that's the one I built.  Here's a pic.

The Real Ghostbusters also had the curved marquee area.

Bad Dudes and Robocop are both the same data east cab, there are others of the same vintage in the same cabinet...  Vigilante, Cobra Command, Karnov..  You could pretty much look up all data east games from the late 80's.

Dynamo showcase cabs do
WTB: The Grid by Midway (2001), looking for 2 or more complete games, and large marquee

How do I find pictures of cabinets by manufacturer.  Every source seems to be focused around the game title in the cabinet.

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but Dragon's Lair has a marquee that isn't flat.  The Dragon's Lair marquee doesn't curve out, but it comes out at an angle.  Instead of being like the wall of a cylinder, it looks more like you're looking at 3 sides of an octogon or decagon.

Here's the current plan for the marquee (bottom of post)

LOL double stuff oreos, I never looked at it that way.  They're one of my favorite cookies too.  Except I take them apart and make them quadruple stuffed.  Now I'm going to want them everytime I play the damn thing.

I don't have any progress pics.  I planned out how I was going to build it over a year or so and when I finally had time to build, it only took me around two days or so.  No time for pic taking.

I know Pixelhugger's cab has a non-flat marquee.  I think he modeled it after dragon's lair or space-ace.

Bitten by the cabinet bug... obsessing ever since.

Mebbe a bit too late for this bump but the Goldmine project used a fantastic bowfront marquee...
