Not to hijack the thread but I also have a "broken" PS2.

This unit has infamous disc read errors but I think its more than laser adjustment required as I tried that and didn't seem to make a difference.

This unit belongs the son of family friends. Anyone know of resource to have a unit fixed or exchanged for a working unit, please PM.

Thanks.

if you cant fix teh read disk error yourself, it makes more snece to just buy a new one as repairs will cost about as much

I bought one for he kids a couple of years ago and it has disk read errors too. I've never thought about trying to fix it. Is this hard? Anyone here do it? Any good resources you've found on the net? Thanks!

Hey Hoagie, thats a great link. Think I'll see if I can fix it tonight. The kids keep asking me when I'm gonna bring it to the repair shop. Its off warranty and I've heard of huge repair bills for those who went the repairman route...Thanks!

Broken how?

Don't know exactly. It was my sisters kids PS2 and he dropped it then it stopped working. That kid never takes care of anything!  I took it apart but since I don't have another PS2 I have nothing to compare it to, or figure out what needs replacement or what everything should look like. It boots up fine but the CD tray wont eject unless you manually pull it out, also when theres a disc it makes this weird noise.  If I was a betting man I would say its the CD mechanism. If no one wants to buy it at least for parts ill just throw it out.

Yeah don't throw it out.  That doesn't sound to bad.  If Soapboy or Hoagi-One doesn't want it I'd definently be interested.
