WTB: Rugged Laptop (Toughbook) for fieldwork
« on: September 29, 2005, 07:51:14 am »
ALLCON,

I'm looking for a laptop to use in the field that is more durable than my current machine. If anyone out there has a Panasonic Toughbook, or similar that they are willing to donate or let go for less than $50, I'd greatly appreciate it. All I'm looking for is a machine that can run DOS and Win95/98 and has atleast 1 USB input.

Thanks,

-Nick

Is it the actual use of the laptop that requires a more durable one, or is it just getting it to where you need to be?  If it's more a matter of transportation, you might look into a Pelican case for your existing laptop.  They weigh a ton, but they are waterproof, dustproof, and pretty much everythingproof.  If it's the actual use in the field that warrants the tougher laptop, then the Pelican case won't help, of course.

Nah, I need it to physicaly be a little more durable than a regular laptop. Thats why I'm looking for a TB. Besides, I've already got a few laptop cases lying around at work I could grab if I wanted.
