Another SlikStik Question
« on: September 27, 2005, 05:11:12 am »
I noticed that on the SlikStik Quad they routed out all 4 joysticks and trackball...I am just wondering if anyone knows how deep they went when doing this and what size screws they used...Also did they use 5/8" MDF or 3/4" MDF...

They use 3/4" melamine, and they dont use a router on any part of the top panel (short of the t-moulding slots)  They have 1 1/8" holes drilled out for the buttons, joysticks and spinner.  They have the large hole for the trackball cut out also, but again its cut straight through.  This is on the slikstik quad but I'll assume they are all the same.  The true question being can I mount joysticks/buttons and a spinner on 3/4" material or am I going to have to buy a router and clear out some space myself (hate to do that, its the only reason I didnt build my own.)

I'm pretty sure they use laminate on their panels, not melamine.  My buddy's SS joysticks extend up less than on my routered panel.  Nothing wrong with the shorter sticks as I don't believe the sticks are routered out underneath in the arcade either.  Just a different feel that you quickly get used to.  Your spinner will be fine on the panel.

Contact SS for more details.

I know that they drilled the holes but for like the joysticks which has the black plastic box, did they route out a spot for this underneath the control panel..Also the same with the trackball...

I do not believe that they do for the joysticks.  Not sure about the TB but would doubt it.  Contact Christian.

This probably should be another thread but I have another questions about SlikStik which I e-mailed them about but have not gotten a reply back yet...Here goes..

I have some questions about some of the keys on your Quad Unit...2 keys on the quad unit that might be very annoying...On the first player buttons they have mapped two buttons for the number 7 and the number 9 which are coin buttons also...If I am not mistaken if you are in a game and start pressing these keys it is going to make the sound of someone inserting a coin which to me would be really annoying...

I am not sure if they have come up with a better mapping of the keys yet for this or not but it has to be hard to try and map all of those keys of the quad and not overlap...

There is no space routed out for the joysticks or the trackball, just thru holes.  And I checked my quad closer, your right no melamine its actual laminate.  As for your question about keys, I have no idea I bought the blank panel because they couldnt do what I requested as far as buttons/joysticks so I will be assembling it myself.  Ill keep you informed as soon as ponyboys order gets to me :)

Now if only my SlikStik Classic would arrive!   ;D  Waiting patiently.

Actually the timing might work out perfectly.  I placed my order 1 month ago and my cabinet just went through the painting phase.  I'll be assembling and installing all the bits and pieces this week and next... hopefully just in time for the SlikStik to arrive!  Boom bam!

Wow!  Amazing.  I will check and reply.  Thanks very much!

Hmmm.. can't find any emails anywhere.  I'll send an email with a color choice, but in case that doesn't work for some reason:

Anodized Purple Skirted spinner = first choice
Anodized Red Skirted spinner = second choice

Thanks!

Yeah, sorry I wasnt trying to put down your product just describing the version I got.  It looks very well constructed and I hope will fit my needs perfectly.  I wish I could have had you guys assemble it but I reaaaaly wanted that trackball flush so it looks like Ill bite the bullet.  And if you look at the thread before your response you will see I re-examined my quad and verified it is formica.

Now if I can just recive my order from you guys on my lighted ball tops, joysticks and spinner Id be rolling :)

(btw the quad came in the largest box Ive ever seen, this thing is a beast!)
