trackball drops ipac power

guys,

i have an ipac4 all works well but when i plug the trackball in the ipac loses power. i tried to plug the trackball into the usb but it will not install driver, these is an power surge on usb device error, the comp starting beeping and thats it. All i need is the trackball to work and im finished, need help pplease.

Why are you plugging the trackball into the IPac?  The IPac plugs into the keyboard ps/2 port and the trackball plugs into the mouse ps/2 port, unless theres something I'm missing.

Look into what AtomSmasher brought up first, and then if it turns out you have everything correctly connected, then I would think maybe your powersupply isn't handling the load of everything you've got. What is your PS wattage and how much stuff is sucking power from it?

I have a 400w power supply of this i have, i dvd rom and i HD, i have hacked a relay into the spare 12v HD power supply, an ipac into the usb and a mouse. I am using a tv.
Looksw like a power problem, ffs why cant things plug and play

Different USB chipsets (and power supplies) can only self power so-much USB equipment.

Get a powered hub and the problem should vanish.

Usually the trackball would plug into an "opti-pac"
like an i-pac board but specifically for trackball and spinners!
the opti pac then plugs into a usb port and provides the ball with the necessary +- 5v

But what if he has one of those trackballs with built-in PS/2 connection?

OK IVE BOUGHT A POWERED HUB, IT SEEMS TO HAVE ELIMINATED THE POWER PROBLEM, HOWEVER, IT KEEPS LOOKING FOR A DRIVER IT DOSENT NEED ??. IT TRIES TO LOOK FOR ONE BUT CANT FIND, HENCE THE THING WONT WORK. ITS ONLY A MOUSE
