Button Placement for Street Fighter
« on: January 13, 2003, 08:35:02 am »
Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone knows precisely how far apart buttons should be for a Street Fighter style CP.  I have read anywhere from 4cm (from center of one button to the next) down to around 3.5, or to the point where buttons are nearly touching.  I tried to measure this myself but believe it or not, SF machines are getting quite difficult to find (around here anyhow).  I guess, while on that note, if anyone also has some input about how far away from the buttons the joystick should be.

Any assistance would be most appreciated!

1.5 inches from center to center.  All inline if you're following a north american layout.

If you're going with a japanese layout, I think the button spacing is closer and it's ergonomic.

Perfect!  Thank you very much!

Any idea on how far the center of the joystick is to the center of the closest buttons for a North American unit?

Oh, and is that 1.5in for both left to right and up to down?

Thanks!

For button and joystick spacing... I didn't find anything exact.  There are a few arcades nearby where I sampled but the measurements were not the same.

For top and bottom row spacing.  Some arcades had it greater than 1.5 inches and some had it at 1.5 inches.

There's a template on SNAAKE's website which should give you a pretty standard CAPCOM joystick/button layout.

Mask it out on cardboard before you do any cutting to the control panel.  That way you can get a feel if your plans are going to work for you or not.
Still in the collecting parts and ideas phase of cabinet building.

Thanks for that template!   If I just print it from IE will it come out to scale?

It should I don't see why not. What I did was print it out in paint on 6 different pieces of paper and tape them together. Sorry the template I gave you was 8 button if you need one that is six I have it on my computer just ask me and I have a whole lot of them I made. I could just IM them to you. Thanx.

there is a original one on my site...go to download section and you have it..also if you wanna see how it looks then go the "other joysticks" section and there is a dual panel where i used those yellow original capcom one.
If you use acrobet reader and print from there then it will be exact and NOT out of scale(just leave it as is and print).the button hole area is exact too(1 1/8).
