Ipac 4 not responding
« on: September 24, 2005, 03:55:37 pm »
I have my cp all set up and I have the ipac 4 plugged into my ps/2.  When I try to run a simple test in Notepad, I can't get a response from the Ipac 4.  I press every button on my cp, but nothing works.  Where should I start looking for problems?

When you power on the pc, does the Ipac's leds light up on the pcb itself?

If not, then it isnt getting power.

The lights on the IPAC 4 light up and stay lit up instantly.  There is no blinking.  They just come on and stay on.  But no response..

That is what they are supposed to do.  So that, at least, is good.

Have you used the software that came with the Ipac at all?  Did you ever remove the jumper on the pcb?  Make sure that is on the default setting which is Mame defaults.

If your IPAC is fairly new then I think you might NOT have any jumpers to deal with.

I dont clearly understand the problem you are having but here is a link to a thread where I was having IPAC problems.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=41941.0

As it turned out I just needed to read the FAQ/troubleshooting section of the ultimarc website.

When your having problems with your encoder its usually toward the end of your project and you're probably starting to get excited to start playing games.  Its a really frustrating time to start having problems.  I know that I wasted a lot of time trying stuff by myself before I asked for help.  Then I was told to spend 2 minutes reading the Ultimarc website and my problem was quickly solved.

If you're still having problems, try and post as much detailed info about your problem , your setup and what you've tried so far.  It will be easier for others to diagnose your problems.

Good luck.

Sounds to me like a USB driver issue.

If you have another computer in your house running a different operating system .... pull your IPAC and use an extra button to test all the inputs in Notepad.

Also ... check "Device Manager" to make sure it's recognizing your IPAC ... it should bug you several times about it installing the drivers.  If not ... you need to update your USB drivers.

I know I had issues with my IPAC being recognized using Windows XP SP2 ... but it worked perfectly with Windows XP Media Edition 2005 without any updates.

make sure all of your ground connections are good, because if they aren't, the buttons wont work.

If they work in notepad, but not in Mamewah, you may want to post in the software forum.  Notepad shows you that the Ipac is working and that your connections are good.

I don't use Mamewah so I can't help you there.  Have you tried using command line version or Mame 32?  That would tell you if it was something with Mamewah or not.

Thanks for the responses guys.  I got the IPAC 4 half-way responding.  Player 1 and 2 is working fine.  But I can't get my player 3 & 4 to work.  When I try to program my config into WinPAC, it configures everything up to players 3 & 4, but then when it gets to players 3 & 4 it just stops and my computer gives me a single "beep" sound.  It won't respond to 3 & 4.  What would cause this?
