IPAC question
« on: January 12, 2003, 11:21:44 pm »
Is there a way to make to seperate buttons operate as the same function with and IPAC?  For example behind my coin door there is a box that the technicians would use to get free credits which I would like to use, as well as the coin door.   Is it dangerous to send both sets of wires to one IPAC slot?

I have been wondering something similar as well...

but what you might also want to consider is this..
map the "coin" button to say player 1 button 8.. probably not used??

then just remap the player 1 button to also be coin... i'm not sure if this can be done.. but it sounds like it should work? :P

You can do either. You can connect multiple buttons to the same input. Or you can map different buttons to the same function.

I have my coin slots hooked up but I also have discrete coin buttons under the front lip of my cab.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Is there a way you can bind a button to say.. act as a shift only?

I was thinking about maybe making the "coin" button shiftable..

so you hit the "coin" button plus the player.. and that simulates a coin for that player..  I plan on having a coin door so it's just for occasional use for four players..

Plus it's harder for someone to just walk up and coin in.. but I can slap a few credits for them if I want ;)

I wired my player 1 8-way stick and my 4-way stick to the same inputs. This saves 4 inputs on the ipac plus you have
a choice between the 8 way and the 4-way , you don't have to re-configure mame . Silverwind I believe you can change the shift to any key you want. I re-mapped mine because I found out the hard way that  Player1 start +player2 start = Escape. This killed a long game of metal slug ,We both hit the start buttons to continue and it was Game Over.

Yeah.. i want to avoid unwanted shift buttons.. I plan to disable all of them except a select few..

was thinking pause (P) + Menu (TAB) = Escape game
that's what i'll do for that one.. makes it harder to do it by accident..

Yes you can specify any key as shift button with the Ipac. Are you planning to make your friends pay quarters? Its not going to take them long to figure out how your entering credits unless you put the shift button inside the coin door and lock it.

I thought I needed coin slots on my first cab and its neat to show people but they have no interest in inserting quarters during a game even if I have a big jar of them sitting next to the cab.

Hehe.. I dunno..  I want a coin door to make it a little more authentic... (use it as a piggy bank too heheh)

figure If I have it.. might as well use it?  Charge other people to play, probably not.

If there were just buttons on the front.. the coin door probably wouldn't see much use..  that's half the fun isn't it? ;)  Trying to get the quarter in the machine to continue before your friend dies because he is now double teamed?  :)

Also just want it out of the way so there is less clutter on the top of the CP..

From my experience your going to want the credit buttons reasonably easy to access. Your also probably going to want people to play when your not in the room or maybe you don't. I like the  coin doors on both of my cabs. It does add to the authenticity and its the coolest piggy bank around.

Also just want it out of the way so there is less clutter on the top of the CP..
You can mount them on top of the cab out of site. My control panel has an over hang where I have a credit button for each player. The buttons are out of site and easy to access.
