Cab builders between Seattle & Portland?
« on: September 24, 2005, 12:26:08 am »
1st of all, let me say I'm very impressed by the level of knowledge on this board.  I've read back about 60 pages so far in this forum and I've learned a lot.

That being said, I really want a MAME cab, but I'm a 'tard when it comes to woodworking.  I thought about a UA II or a Slik Stik kit, but the S&H is a killer.  Anyone between Seattle & Portland interested in building a cabinet for a few $$$ ?  All I need is the bare cab, I can probably handle wiring up the CP, etc.

Thanks for the read,

Ron

I might be willing to do it but I think you would be better off finding an old cab because it will be even cheaper.  Here is an example on Craiglist that I saw a couple of days ago.  Don't know anything about the guy or what he has but it might be just what you are looking for.   It is here in Seattle but it looks like a good deal:

Have a few bare cabinets for sale 20.00 and up.If your looking for mame cabinets,or something for Jamma or just an arcade project give me a call.I can outfit the cabs with monitors if you like some have control panels but I have even more if you need more joysticks,buttons,etc...I also like trades if you have any.I do have a couple working games for sale like Battlezone,Tron, etc. You can e-mail me at arcades@verizon.net or call my cell at 425-328-6192 if I dont answer leave your number and I willl call right back....Thanks....Dave

If it doesn't work out and you are still looking later on drop me a note and we'll see what we can work out.

I sent him an e-mail.  If it doesn't work out, I'll keep you in mind but it sounds pretty promising.  Thanks for the assist!

Not great news, the only cabinets he had was a battle zone (with the scope) and a space wars (perhaps the biggest cabinet in the history of video games!)  I've got a couple numbers for a few places in Olympia/Tacoma maybe I'll strike gold there.

Great to see people on this site from the North West.  I've got an old Sega Carnival Cabinet that I will give you if you pick it up.  I was going to restore it but won't get around to it for some time.  Of course it's a smallish control panel so it wouldn't be ideal for a frankenstein mame panel.

You could also try www.gamecabinetsinc.com they sell expensive fully set up cabinets.  But the guys there are really cool and you maybe able to talk them into just selling you the empty cab.

Give me a buzz if you need anything (206) 465-0605

Appreciate all the feedback from the locals!

I've got a line on a guy in Tacoma that has 8 cabinets he's looking to unload cheap to free.  I'll be checking them out and taking 1 or maybe 2.  If anyone in the area needs a cab, I'll probably take pics when I go on Thursday or Friday.

Wow.

Cheap to free is a great price.  Let us know what he has.  I'd love to pick up a dead cabinet, too.  So much cheaper than buying all that MDF.

I am in Seattle and had a hard time finding a local place that wanted to talk to me about getting an old cab.  I ended up building mine, currently 85% complete (needs paint and a box for the CP).

I also would be interested in what the guy in Tacoma has left over.

In Tacoma, try Bill Masterman at Masterman Vending.

In Olympia, try my buddy Steve Mildenberger at 360-754-1278 and mention I sent you.

If you're in Oregon, here's a guy that has Pac-Man cabs for $50 each:

Selling my Final Fight Jamma Arcade. Yes, it's in a crystals castles cabinet :-) Plug in other JAMMA boards or restore it back to the crystal castles. Side art underneath looks reaaly goos. Game plays great, pictures didn't turn out so good.
I am also selling PACMAN cabinets for $50.00 each and have TONS of 80's Arcade parts that I want gone and they will be listed here during the weeks to follow.

i was going to buy some cabs from steve, but i ended up not being able to get them.  from the few email messeges we exchanged, he seemed like a really nice guy.  i've also been looking around the seattle area for awhile looking for cheap cabinets, and craigslist was the best place for me to find them.  i ended up starting my own mdf cab, but i'm still on the lookout for a cheap (or better yet, free) cabinet.

but anyways, kudos to Steve Mildenberger.

Ken,

I owe you one!  Steve is a great guy, went and saw him this morning and picked up a RoadBlasters cab with a good monitor.  If anyone in the South Sound is looking for a cab, he's got some other good ones as well, including a standup Outrun which would make a sweet driving game cab.

If anyone wants the # of the guy in Tacoma with the 8 cabs available, shoot me a PM.  He's kind of hard to get in touch with, but may come thru for you.

I'm right here in the Redmond/Bellevue area, and  have just gone into full-time graphics production. I've got the beginings of a deal to do the graphics for http://gamecabinetsinc.com/

Since I'm doing this full-time, I can accomodate a lot more requests that before. I'f you're interested in any custom graphics for your cab, control panel, etc, let me know.

Oh, and if you're still having trouble finding an empty cab, let me know.

Well, heck I live in Kirkland so we've got the East side covered.

Wow, I live close to THE "Motorfish".  If I would have known that I would have tried to contact you a long time ago.  I really admire your CPO and bezel work and have been trying to emulate it with my own limited abilities.

Seems like you were real active on these boards a year or two ago but haven't seen much lately.  Move on to another hobby?

Yeah, I kinda dissapeared for awhile there. I was really busy working on SOCOM II patching and SOCOM III for Playstation 2, which Zipper just wrapped up not but a month ago. I was working some brutal days (14 to 16 hour ones) for about six months solid.

Needless to say, I kind of lost touch with just about everything for a while there. ^_^

I've just recently quit from Zipper to pursue my own path in graphics and design, and I hope to start doing custom MAME and home arcade graphics (control panels, sideart, bezels, etc) for people as a full time endevor while I get my comic book submission done for TokyoPop comics.

You'll have to come by sometime, or we should all meet up sometime. I've got to pull the monitor out of the horizontal machine on Monday to fix some convergance issues, but it should be up and running by the end of the week. I just got an ArcadeVGA installed and I've got to tell you, the difference between running filters and running with the ArcadeVG is day and night. It's that good!

In any case, I've got some new graphic designs in the works that will be lots better than what I was able to offer up before. Hopefully I should have thgese done by Christmas.

Cool,

I'm on capitol hill.  I get a lot of stuff from GCI.  Like I said in a previous email I have an empty sega/gremlin carnival cab.  The art and condition isn't bad it just needs a home so if anyone wants it, let me know.  We should all grab a bite sometime.

I'm down in Vancouver, Wa. originally from Tacoma. Didn't realize there were this many of us from the NW. We should do a BYOAC meet up sometime. Ground Kontrol down here in PDX would be a sweet location :D

I am replying to this because I am in the seattle area and am interested if people want to do a get together and meet in the NW. I am currently working on a bartop design using a 19" flat panel display with hot swappable control panels. I am going to modify AdvanceCD to make it work on older/slower hardware. I have a Street Fighter with 25" arcade monitor that I have swithed over to MAME and am always looking for more NW mame folk.

I'm originally from Bothell, but I'll be staying in Bellevue for part of the break w/ my gf's family.  I go to school in Ellensburg but I can always make a trip back home for a Mame get-together.  If people are really interested, we can arrange a place/day/time to meet, possibly the convention center (I went there once for the seattle #206 meeting) or if anyone has a local spot/bar/house that is big enough to accompany a large mame gathering.  We can also maybe do a show-off/swap meet as I have a box full of parts I'd love to trade.

- If people are really down, we can see if we can get JustMichael, one of the oldest registered BYOAC members in the NW to showup as long as he can get the time off of work.  We also need to get an email list together to keep contacts, so if people really want to do this we'll need to start PM'ing each other and getting an email list together.

Sounds good.  I have a pretty hectic holiday season but sundays are usually pretty good days. I think it would be best to meet in a restraunt or bar or something, that way we can have a meal and a beer.

hey cool, and I just turned 21! :)
Anyone who's up for this, email me at

and I'll get a list going for locals who want to meetup.  I also have 9 redoctane boxes I got when they had a blowout sale, they all have 4 buttons on the boxes, so if anyone's interested I'll bring those plus parts for trade.
