REQ: State quarter requests <Updated Nov 15>
« on: September 21, 2005, 08:37:22 pm »
I have been collecting the quarters which have the 50 states represented on the back of them for a while and still need a few to help me fill my two sets (one set for each of my two children).  I was hoping some people in this forum might be able to help me out since they are from different parts of the country and might have easier access to the specific quarters I still need ..... possibly have them lying around the house right now.

If you find any of the quarters I need listed below and are willing to send the quarter(s) to me, then please reply to this post, PM me or email me directly at emailAddrRemoved to let me know which ones you have and I will be in contact.

I will reimburse the contributors of course.   I will most likely wait a bit then compile a list of all those who wish to help me out to determine who to contact about acquiring the quarters.  Basically, if someone has 8 quarters I need, then I will contact that person to ship out 8 quarters at once rather than contacting 8 individual people to send out individual quarters.   Just makes sense .....

Ok ..... each quarter has a "D" or "P" on the front right side indicating which mint the quarter came from  ---- (D)enver or (P)hiladelphia ---  along with the state name on the top of the quarter.   I am looking for D and P specific state quarters, so please look at  list below and see if you have any which I need:

<EDIT Nov15>
2003 Arkansas (one D quarter)
2003 Maine (one D quarter)

2004 Michigan (one D quarter)
2004 Texas (two D quarters)

2005 Minnesota (two D quarters)
2005 Oregon (one P quarter and two D quarters)
2005 Kansas (two D quarters)
2005 West Virginia (two P quarters and two D quarters)
<EDIT  Nov15>

Who uses quarters anymore when you got tokens...........

No seriously, I'm collecting the quarters too. I've had a hard time finding them from 2003 on up. If I do get extras I'll let you know........

Unfortunately I just took all my quarters back about a month ago.
I'll keep an eye out for Oregon ones for you though.
I live just over the border from there, in Washington.

Keep bumping this now and then, so I don't forget.

I avoid the hassle and just order proof and mint sets from the Mint each year.  Takes the challenge out of it, I know, but a few clicks and you are done for the year.  And you get them before all 5 are in general circulation.

Why do people collect these?  I know quite a few people who do.

Why do people collect anything "collectible"? Most people think it will gain in value. That's why. But what doesn't occur to them is that the same money put into a good GIC or Mutual Fund will earn way more.

Especially this, since everyone seems to think these will increase in value.  They can't be rare at all, even the noncirculated ones.

No reason other than to just have a set. At least that's the reason why I do it. I also have a fairly extensive collection of pre-64 US silver coins and quite a lot of international coins as well. I have no illusions about my coins ever being worth much. I just enjoy looking at them.

I'll take a look in my coin jar and see if I have any for you, however my quarters that don't go into an album usually end up in a soda machine pretty quickly. :)

I just checked my collection...

I've got both "D" and "P" sets up to Wisconsin and the "P" set of California and Minnesota...  Both sets are in wood frames with a little brass "The Statehood Collection" plate on the top.  I do have a coffee can I've been keeping my spares in for the game cab... but not very many quarters in it from '04 and '05....

Sorry I have been gone from this post so long ... I thought I had a "notify set for it and obviously did not ..... then I just thought no one had replied .....

Anyway, I am back and definitely set the "notification" correctly this time, so here are the quarters I still need (if you can help me out):

2003 Arkansas (one D quarter)
2003 Maine (one D quarter)

2004 Michigan (one D quarter)
2004 Texas (two D quarters)

2005 Minnesota (two D quarters)
2005 Oregon (one P quarter and two D quarters)
2005 Kansas (two D quarters)
2005 West Virginia (two P quarters and two D quarters)

The quarters do not have to be uncirculated quarters, but I would like them to be shiny, not scratched or visibly damaged.

Let me know what you can do to help.... thanks.  I will trade if I have quarters you need.

PS:  I am collecting these sets so I can give each set to my son's when they get a bit older.    Has nothing to do about money for me.

Thanks
UncleT
