Losing my message
« on: September 16, 2005, 08:59:01 am »
Why does the private message system feel compelled to delete my message if my session times out?

That's beyond aggravating with a technical letter.

It's not difficult to carry the post data over.  Why must I fear the byoac egg timer?

Why don't you:

1) stay logged in forever?  There is an option for that when you log in.  You can always log out...

2) don't take an hour to write a PM.  ;)

#1 is done but #2 was unavoidable in this case.

Besides, neither of those have to do with the point: there is no reason beyond programmer laziness to reset the text in my message just because the session times out.

how does it take an hour to write a PM???

there is no reason beyond programmer laziness to reset the text in my message just because the session times out.

there is no reason beyond sender's laziness the message can't be rewritten when the session times out.

Yes. Use the stay logged in option. I had the same problem before doing this. If for some reason you don't want to use this copy your post/PM to clipboard if you feel you're in danger of timing out.

If you know it's going to be a long message, why don't you write it in Word or whatever your text cruncher of choice is. Then just copy/ paste when you're finished. Easier still, write your message as usual. If you suspect that you may have timed out, copy the entire message before you click th epost button. That way if you do time out, you can just paste it back in after you log in again.

I'll stick with smoke signals until they get the bugs worked out of that whole "letters" technology. ;)
