Nudity in SOS!

Sooo, I tried out this ANCIENT black n white Namco game called "S.O.S." ("SOS" in MAME). You fly a big plane and shoot oncoming smaller planes.

If you check the dipswitch menu, one of them is labelled "Nudity".

Somehow that seems like a mistake. Anyone find the nudity in this plane shooter?

mmmm that's odd i have that too! dunno... maybe it does have nudity but somewhere fathur into the game i guess.

It is probably merely a copy and paste error in the driver.

Based on Maws - http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/sos - I don't think so, category is Mature and the Nudity dipswitch was added in 0.78u1.

I still say the naming of the switch is a copy and paste error, that was then propagated from there.

Or do we really believe that black and white airplane game had nudity in it?

Did some more digging on the web on this -
MAWS shows this added in 0.78u1, but doesn't list a source for this.

The whatsnew text for 0.78u1 mentions target changes in it, but nothing about dipswitches (not too surprising).  http://www.sys2064.com/betamame.htm

0.78 was released around 12-24-03.  A search of the MAME WIP archives from 03-2003 to 03-2004 shows no mention of SOS.

Arcade History database http://www.arcade-history.com/history_database.php?page=detail&id=2505 doesn't mention the dipswitch.

This thread on BYOAC (Found from a google on SOS nudity dipswitch) http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=30796.0  say TriggerFin (CatVer author) supports this idea, but he appears to be going by the dipswitch name.

OTOH, MAWS also lists cheats for infinite lives, so anyone curious could probably enable this and find out. . .

In my quest to create adult themed screenshots of all the adult games for my adult list I was unable to find anything racy enough in this game to bother.

However, I think I know why the game is listed as mature. You do indeed get to see a pixelalized womanly form at some point in the game. It's hard to imagine this as adult in nature now - since it could very well resemble a woman with clothes on. However back when it was made it was probably very racy to include anything even remotely feminine.
