Anyone building Chexx Hockey replicas?
« on: September 14, 2005, 12:36:40 pm »
The first time I ever considered getting an arcade style machine for myself it was Chexx Hockey.  I've come around to the idea of building a MAME machine for myself after discovering the emulators.

I thought chexx hockey was a favourite.  All of the machines I've ever seen are well loved.  They're easier to find on ebay than mame machines, but they sell for extraordinary prices.

I have found online, the Chexx manuals, and just about every spare part for a Chexx machine for sale.  I haven't actually done the math but I suspect that just the cost of the parts would send the project cost through the roof.

Just wondering if anyone has built one.  What it turned out like.  How close to the design of an actual chexx machine... etc.

PS I searched Chexx, but after checking one link in the search results the back button gives a "page expired" warning.  you have to do the search all over again.  This is something the moderators should look into.

Or right-click on the search result you want to see and choose "open in new window" and you never have to refresh the list.  Just close the window and go back to the list window to open another one.

I think I know why nobody is building Chexx machines.

I did an incomplete parts list from Happ

dome, 2 net assy's, corner deflectors 4, puck, ice surface, 2 goalies, 10 players, 10 player gearboxes.

in excess of $2500.  I reiterate it's an incomplete list.  This doesn't even include the scoreboard, the cpu, coin door, or materials to build the base and control rods, grips....

only 10 players, 10 gearboxes, 2 goalies is over $500.  That means making the base the tracks for the control rods, the rods, the computer controls etc yourself.  I think you'd have to buy the scoreboard.

Looks like this sort of machine is a resto project type thing only.
