speaker grills
« on: September 10, 2005, 11:55:45 pm »
I'll be needing some covers/grills for my speakers.  I have a set of some supernice altec lansing 4.1 speakers.  i'm not too worried about the sub, but i'll need something for the tweeters.  not sure where to find some grills though.  the tweeters themselves are 4 convex sides (not a straight square.)  but i suppose that's irrelevant.  the holes for the screws are located in the corners, and the diameter of the entire thing is 3".  tried the local radio shack with no luck.

finding them that small is hard.  pretty much all i see on ebay is car speaker grills.

surely people have made their own grills using some kind of materials.  perhaps a metal mesh of some sort cut to size?  what have some people used?

I made my own grills. Refer here for details. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=35285.msg370001#msg370001

I am also in the middle of making some larger ones so keep an eye out in the next week for a speaker grill tutorial.

forgot to add that i did mine using black textured acrylic(on the flip side it is smooth) and basically I just came up with a checkerboard pattern to use as where i drilled my vent holes.

Alas, I am more than half way through my current ones made from 3/4 MDF......

I tell you what grill material I really like though, the mesh stuff Minwah used on his cabinet. I would definitely consider something similar on my next cab for sure. It looks sharp.
