I just picked this up today. It was free.

I'll be putting a lot of effort into this one, since I don't have any other projects at the moment.

Needs a new overlay, and new buttons, the rotary push controller seems fine. Joystick is questionable, I might replace it with a different one.

Glass is in pretty good shape, only very minor flaking, which will be clearcoated tommorrow.

Boards are gone, monitor is gone, power supply is gone.

It will look dedicated, but it will be Mame. Frontlines have a deal with the power supply reset line or something like that, that keeps most of them from functioning correctly. That is what was wrong with this one, after like 50 hours of repair work the guy I got it from gave up, sold the otherwise working board to someone, put the monitor in another game, and gave me the empty.

Spriggy & Wade were working together on this before.  It would be great if you could verify the accuracy of it:

The Taito Sideart has had some font typography correction (some new reference photos found) and both updated right and left side artwork have been upped to the AAL.

GORGEOUS cabinet.  I used to love playing Frontline growing up.  I haven't played at all on MAME because of it's special control set-up.  Nice find.

For the side art - would it be hard to trace what you have before sanding and such, then just re-apply after you're ready?  Or is that what's basically involved in stenciling?  I just made some Halloween decorations using tracing paper & drawings, it took some time but was pretty simple stuff.

Welcome back!

I traded for a Tank Batallion cabinet the other day. It will be a dedicated vertical mame cabinet. (Thanks crsdawg) I dig the Tank artwork, it's just something different than standard pizzas eating dots and space ships. You cabinet has cool art as well.

Will this one keep the special controls, or get a more traditional setup?

I am going to keep the existing controls, but I may add a second button.

The one thing that sucks is that I'll have to use a Willis overlay, as apparently no one makes a regular one. But at least the Willis Frontline overlay matches the cab, (unlike most of their other ones).

Now the next concern is the monitor.

I am torn between using a computer monitor, or shoving a 19" TV into an arcade case and using that.

It's a shame your D9200 won't fit in there....

It actually WOULD, it is a vertical cab, most 19" verticabs will actually take a 27" monitor.

But, my D9200 is going into the Super Sprint cabinet (which will no longer be a driving cabinet when I get done with it).

If I lived in St. Louis, I would only use the $75 - 21" kiosk monitors. The only thing keeping me from buying 2 more, is the 8 hour round trip.

Yeah, I have one of them left in my closet, but every once in a while the colors go "off" a little bit, and I have to press on the neckboard to get the colors to go back correctly.

I have had perfect results with mine. It just seems to be luck of the draw with these monitors. I would like to pick up a couple more at some point, but it will have to wait until my work sends me to St. Louis

   Would you be interested in a set of stencils to repaint the side?  I have a Jungle King project I've been gathering parts for forever.  I found someone to make adhesive stencils for this artwork, for a reasonable price.  If I can get 2 other people to go in on it with me, then the price would be reasonable for all of us.

No thanks, after more careful examination of the wood I have opted to simply cover the whole thing in Parts Express vinyl. The wood isn't in the condition where it is going to paint up correctly, and if I start sanding it then it is just going to start disentegrating (particle board).

I've been wanting a Fronline (especially the 8-way dial) for a long time.  There is nothing like the real thing.   And free too...geeez!

No problem.  This JK project of mine is one of those that I wish I had never picked up, because it will still cost me some dough to finish it, and I've totally lost steam with it.

I may just end up selling off the parts I've accumulated to recoup some of my costs, and just trash the cab, or make it into a MAME to give to a friend or sell for a few bucks.

It looks like this project will be joined with another Taito classic cabinet, a ZOO KEEPER!!!!

Zoo Keeper has been on my list for ages, I just found a buddy getting rid of a painted over one. I am good at taking off old paint.
