Translucent & Glow in the dark buttons?
« on: September 09, 2005, 05:08:10 pm »
Where can I get translucent (various colors) & glow in the dark buttons?  All I see in the Happs catalog are solid colored buttons, or those big square & oval type buttons that are translucent.  I'm looking for std buttons (like what you would see on an x-arcade panel, or say on a Mortal Kombat machine).

Thanks,

FXbuttons has the translucents.  Tom at Specialty Plastics has Glow buttons- but be warned, the glow buttons are Nintendo sized, which means they are a teeny bit smaller than standard ones.

Glow buttons probably look cool in the dark, but how do they look in the light?

Much g-i-t-d plastic stuff is a sickly green in light.

Be careful with glow-in-the-dark stuff.

OK, in general, which looks better:

Clear translucent w/ a red LED
Red translucent with white led
red translucent with red led?

Definitely leaning towards red translucent since it will stillhave the color effect when the room is lit...

I was thinking for 1/2 player credit buttons & pinball buttons I would go with the glow in the dark.  Maybe  should just get clear translucents for those...

What about joysticks?  Ihave seen the ones from SlikStik, but I am partial to bat-handles...

I remember seeing knievil mention that the button with same color LED looked best. So red with red would be your best pick. That's how I'm doing my buttons as well.

Definitly red translucent with a red led. I had the same question and the guy at the electronics shop told me to use red led's, and he also explained it, something with lightwaves & frequencies, but I forgot that. The bottom line is he was right. Take a look here to see my results:

(scroll down a bit to see the pics)

I only used 1 led per button, Knievl's original idea uses two because blue is a harder colour to light up. I am very content with the results...

O by the way, Suzo carries translucent leaf buttons, not sure if you want leaf or microswitch (I say leaf, but that's just MHO). Since Suzo and Happ merged, you'd expect Happ to also carry them ?

Try Terry at  tornadoterrysdot on eBay.

Right now he has these listed:  http://cgi.ebay.com/HAPP-LIGHTED-PUSH-BUTTON-ARCADE-JAMMA-WKS-W-MAME-TM_W0QQitemZ6207210472QQcategoryZ13718QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He's a great guy to deal with also, super fast shipping and great prices.
