Can you recommend a steering wheel?
« on: September 08, 2005, 09:27:47 am »
Can you guys recommend a PC steering wheel for my cab?
I want something I can mount to my CP, and remove when not in use...pedals I can set on the floor, and put away, when I'm done...
I've looked around a little, and my choices seem to be limited, without ordering on line...I found a Logitech Momo force feedback unit with a sequential shifter...at $159.99CDN+TAX I want to make sure it's something suitable...
Any info is greatly appreciated...

What kind of driving games are you looking to use it for?

If your goal is primarily MAME, then a force feedback wheel would be wasted, and probably not really worth the investment.

If you are looking at actual PC racers, then the Momo would be a great wheel, or if money is not a huge issue, then I'd suggest looking into the Logitech Driving Force Pro. It is sold as a PS2 wheel, but does work great for the PC as well.

Well, I do want to play PC drivers and MAME drivers too, that's why I want the force feeback...does the driving force pro need a special driver for Windows XP??

Yep, you would need to get the drivers. They can be obtained here:

Sidewinder is Microsoft right...have you tried other wheels??  Does it compare??

Thanks for the link.  Have you tried this wheel and driver personally??
Has anyone found any problems doing this??

Still lovin' my Sidewinder...

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=37990.0
Thanks Knievel...BTW I love your cab, I hope mine will turn out half as well...

In his post Knievel says:
"It won't work for games like Super Sprint where you have to spin the wheel all the way around."

Will the Logitech work with these, since it says it is a 900 degree wheel?

I have used my DFP on the PC with those drivers, and it works amazingly well. I have also used the sidewinder wheel, and the DFP kicks the crud out of it, though if you can find a sidewinder for that price it would certainly still be the better buy.

I have not tried to use the DFP with 360

I guess I'll have to see if I can find both, and try both...
I really like the game Hard Driving and the Crusin ones in MAME...
I don't mind spending the money, if one will give me a larger range of games I can play...

I picked up a Driving Force Pro yesterday...I haven't had a chance to try it out yet though...
$149.99CDN at Logic Computer House in Ontario...the location I went to, only had 2 left...
Cost-Co has them here for the same price, but they're web only, and they won't send to a store for pick-up...it was around $15 for shipping...non-member price was $159CDN (I think)...
Everywhere else I looked was $199.99CDN...

I recently bought the driving force pro wheel for PS2 (although I didn't know you could use it on the PC, thanks).

It's a better deal for those in the U.S., as I see those Logitech wheels all the time in gamestops/eb and they are still selling for $149.99 USD.

For the PC, whihc do you like better?

Thanks,

Brain21

I recently bought the driving force pro wheel for PS2 (although I didn't know you could use it on the PC, thanks).  I bought it from CompuPlus.  They sell computer stuff for the most part, but also some game controllers and things.  The best thing is the price: $99.95 and the shipping for me was under $15!

http://www.compuplus.com/i-Logitech-Driving-Force-Pro-963293-0403-1001863~t-logitech%20Driving%20Force%20Pro-sid-cny2u7t131s60j8-track-searchViewed.html

They also have the MOMO PC wheel for $71:

http://www.compuplus.com/i-Logitech-MoMo-Racing-Force-Wheel-963282-0403-1003329~t-logitech%20Driving%20Force%20Pro-sid-cny2u7t131s60j8-track-searchViewed.html

I highly recommend CompuPlus.  Not just for this deal, as I have bought stuff from them many times and was always happy with the result.

Do you mean between the MOMO and the Driving Force Pro?

The Driving Force Pro is better ragardless of the platform you are using it on (PS2 or PC).

It has stronger force feedback, and it has 900

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a like new DFP that I can sell to someone, if you are close by I could do $100 shipped, if you are far, you may have to cover shipping.
