New DOS Mame Cocktail
« on: September 06, 2005, 01:37:35 pm »
Hey everyone,
Im about to build a cocktail cab to house a mame setup.
I want to use DOS from WinME.

Can anyone recommend a good motherboard/video/sound combination?
Obviously id rather an all-in-one board but am very warey of incompatibility with DOS.

Also, im going to use AdvMame to front end it.  Anybody got a better idea?

Can anyone help?

Thanks!!!

Assuming you'll only be playing classic games (it's a cocktail after all), I'd use this computer:

(Dell Optiplex GX1 PIII 600mhz)
I've only ever used the 'desktop' version, but I'd imagine these 'tower' versions use the same motherboards.
They usually have onboard ATI Rage graphics and onboard sound that works from DOS no problems.

It's been a while, but can you get to DOS easily from WinME.  I know you can from 98, but didn't mess that much with WinME.

ADVMAME is not a front-end. Maybe you meant AdvanceMenu?

Sorry, yes AdvanceMenu.
Its been a while since i test ran the various options i have under Dos.

As far as Dos from ME goes - no problem.

But, id like the machine to play neo-geo and capcom roms too.  Not just classics.
Im guessing any p4 would eat them for breakfast, but im after a bit of confirmation.
