Hardware question
« on: September 05, 2005, 09:44:25 pm »
Hey I just upgraded my mame box to an Athalon 1.2 with 192 megs of ram.  and an AVGA I was wondering if you all think i can run the CHD games?  My old box was too slow (Celeron 500)
Anyway please let me know what you all think.

BTW, I am running XP PRO and MAME 99 with MAMEWAH1.61, but am going ot the 1.62 ASAP.

Thanks,
Ken

Probally not anything hardcore.  The extra ram really makes little to no impact here.  Sorry  :-[

so what can i do to play teh CHD games with some sort of good speed?  Should i step up to an athalon 2400 or something?  Or should i go to 1 gig of ram?  Just wondering here, as i am quite hapy for it playing my mame machine and really do not need the chd games, HOWEVER i want area 51 as it is one of my favorites.

I dont think the 2400 is going to take you over the top.  1 gig of ram really wont help much.  Search for Area 51 I know there have been tons of posts on this specific game and minimum requirements.

My friend runs a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and he says he get good speeds on CHD games.

I have an AMD 2000XP+ with 256M ram and it runs area51 fine.  You should manually set the resolution to 320x240 though, that will give you the extra FPS you need.

Area 51 run great on my 2.8 p4 with 321x240 (Arcadevga card), samplerate 22050, triplebuffer 0.

You get some screen tearing occasionaly but the gameplay stays smooth.
