need help with meter/counter...
« on: January 07, 2003, 06:03:52 pm »
I have an old Galaga cabinet that I made into a MAME arcade. Everything is working, even the original coin mechs. The only thing I have trouble with is connecting the meter/counter that counts the number of coins that have been deposited. There are two wires coming from the meter.

Thanks

Hmm, was that something the arcade board controlled? Does the meter increase if you connect them? If so, you could connect those wires to the coin microswitch and it would advance everytime a coin was inserted and that microswitch was triggered..
It might also need power in which case you still may be able to use the coin microswitch. Apply power to one lead of the counter and interupt the ground wire to the coin switch. When the coin switch closes it will complete the counter circuit and advance it one.

If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

The meter in my cabinet works on twelve volts. So I hooked 12 volts to the red wire and let my coin button supply the ground when pressed. Will count off as many games as "coins inserted". Of course it doesn't keep track of someone repeatedly pressing the button then only playing once but it gets the job done. I also took my meter apart (was VERY hard to put back together) and reset it to 0.
