Really need help...
« on: September 03, 2005, 11:32:51 pm »
I normally dont post the same topic in 2 threads but I got no responce in the software forum and I am really getting frustrated...

I saved mame32, version 67 ( I think) from my current cabinet onto a cd. I also saved all the moonwalker roms, because I am going to make a dedicated moonwalker cab thats just runs moonwalker from an old pc. When I put the disk into  the other computer, everything is on there, mame loads up and everything, but it tells me I have moonwalker roms still missing....When I had all the mame roms on it on my other machine it works, but when I just put just the moonwalker roms into the roms folder, it tells me I have files missing and wont run the game. So basically it works when all mame roms are on it, but doesnt when just the moonwalker roms are...why is this? It has to be moonwalker bootled too, not set 1 or anything else, because thats the only one that has an attraction mode playing when no ones at the cab, I cant figure out whats goin on, so could someone help? Is there like one rom you need that runs all the games, then the moonwalker roms? I dunno.... ...please help.
Coming soon: 4 player mame cab and Scratch built Moonwalker....Hall of Fame, here I come!

If what you did was to actually copy your MAME32 directory from the old computer onto the CD, you would have carried your Rom path info onto the cd, too.  When you put the CD in the other computer, is MAME still looking for ROMs in c:\mame\roms or wherever you had them on the old computer?

Im not sure what version it is, but moonwalker works in it, Its working on my machine right  now. I copied mame and all the folders onto the cd and put it on my other computer, i didnt copy all the roms, just moonwalkers roms. When I put it on my other computer and run the "audit games" It says it found 2 roms for moonwalker but they are "incorrect". I then click on any of the moonwalkers and it gives me a list of roms that werent found...yet it works on my other machine with the exact same roms, i just copied them from one computer to the other, I cant think of anything I am doing rom, unless their are roms it needs that arent called "moonwalker"...they are in some other directory?

There are two... one called moonwlka and one called  moonwlkb...when put on the different computer in the roms folder it tells me I still have roms missing, while on the current computer they work.

are you running a different version of the mame32 exe on the two computers? or is everything the exact same except the number of roms you copied into the roms directory?

Ok...I saved my mame32 from the one computer to a cd and put it on the other. So theres the same mame32 on both computers, exact same, the only difference is the first computer has every mame rom in the roms directory, for it is a mame machine. I am going to build a dedicated moonwalker with an old computer, so it only has the moonwalker roms in it, the exact same moonwalker roms as the first machine, and there is no way I can put all the mame roms on it because the hard drive is so small and its a pretty slow computer. When I click audit games it tells me the roms I have for moonwalker are in correct, it finds them, but tells me they are incorrect, yet they are the EXACT same ones as the other computer....I dont know. Im thinking there is some "basic" rom I need that all games use or something that I didnt put on, since I only put the moonwalker roms, and the other computer has every games roms, so I dont know....

BAH!! I found the problem!  :D Apparently there was another rar database just called "MOONWLK" that wasnt in alphabetical order on my first machine, so I figured moonwlka and moonwlkb  were the only roms, soo...after getting frustrated, I just started extracting all the "M" games into the roms folder on the new computer, and sure enough, there was a file just called "MOONWLK", then MOONWLKA" and "MOONWLKB". It was telling me I had to incorrect roms because I only had 2 3rds of the game, but it is working now, I dont know where on my first machine that file is, it must be floatin around in the middle somewhere, not in alphabetical order.....
