Touchscreen Jukebox Software
« on: September 03, 2005, 05:49:26 am »
Got my hands on the old Point of Sale machine used at one of our Subway stores.
'Tis only a P233, and the touchscreen's max res is 800*600, but with a nice big hard drive and a soundcard, it'll make a really nice jukebox machine for taking to parties.
The problem, however, is finding some decent software to use for this.
I've tried PartyTime Jukebox and a couple of others, but they're too buggy, or too hard to configure. I don't have album art in each folder so PartyTime shits itself, and I'd rather a single-song based list than an album-based one.
What I'm after is something that will basically allow people to search the music library (either by a string or by the first letter of artist/album, but they'll need the A, B, C etc buttons to do this), and add them to the playlist.
- An admin function to allow me to edit the playlist if need be
- after a few seconds, drop to either vis or if the item selected is a video clip, the video.

Any ideas?

Ever heard of BPM Jukebox? I've been using it a few months now in combination with a touchscreen and it works fine for me. Large buttons and a good interface.  Follow this link http://www.alcatech.com/html/

It's a professional tool and it's not cheap. I paid about $300 for this program, but imho it's the best so far.

A planned feature is video support. Check out their  website for further details.

I added some screenshots of this program.

System requirement:

Minimal System Requirements

Windows 2000 / XP
Pentium III / Athlon 1GHZ, 256 MB RAM, 20MB Disk Space
USB for Dongle
Recommended System Requirements

Windows 2000 / XP
Pentium III / Athlon 2GHZ, 512 MB RAM, 20MB Disk Space
USB for Dongle

That will not run on P233 acording to it's specifications...

You can download my software for free and it supports video and karaoke right out of the box. Admittedly you do have to put some work into tagging your etc to get the most out of the it but this is true of most jukebox software. It should run ok on a 233mhz from the reports i have had let me know.

Agreed - these machines are *old*, and if I was going to spend money on software, I'd pay a mate a few cartons of beer to do it for me.
I've actually started writing my own, which, aside from a few problems with reading ID3 tags, is starting to take shape. Will post when I'm done.

This thred doesn't make much sense? First you request some software suggestions then say you would get a friend to code it for a few beers then you are coding it yourself. A huge leap there LOL  ;D Anyway regarding your tag reading, what language are you using to code your jukebox in? If it is visual basic i can probably help you out, otherwise you might want to consider using something like BASE.DLL or AUDIOGENIE. I can't remeber the links right now but they are in my jukebox thred.

Good Luck. ;D

Hehe, it's been 6 weeks since I first posted, at that stage I was looking for software. I couldn't find any, so I started writing some myself.
The 'getting a mate to write it' bit was in reference to paying for software.
I'm writing it in VB6, of which my knowledge is fairly limited (and I've forgotten a lot since I was last writing code).
I'm about to head out, but when I get the chance I'll gather what I've done so far, any help will be much appreciated. My code is currently very nasty - the software uses text files (which you have to make yourself) to get the song lists, purely because I couldn't remember how to use DAOs hehehe
