Kick Plate, Foot Rest, or ??
« on: January 07, 2003, 01:07:13 am »
The cabinet that I am cleaning up is in great condition except for some water damage at bottom.  Wood and artwork is a little warped and chipped.

Does anyone have any suggestions for cosmetically covering this up? Like some type of kick plate or foot rest?

Is the damage all the way round? Some checker plate around the bottom would look alright.  I've seen you can get rolls of fake checker plate (plastic or something) that looks like steel but isn't.  You could just glue that to the sides just as long as the water damage hasn't caused the wood to expand or flare significantly.

*shrug* just an idea.

I have seen aluminum sheets with the diamond tread design and a chrome finish available at Lowes.  You could use that with a couple stainless steel carriage bolts.

Or if you have any local steel fabricators around town, they may be willing to cut a few pieces of steel to the dimensions you need and they can even puch the square holes for carriage bolts to go through.

btw  CD, I am telling Rampy you stole his *shrug*   ;)    Unless, of course, you have express written permission from Rampy to do so.  :P

Ha! I don't have a monopoly on the *shrug*, just guilty of overusing it so much that it had become a quasi-trademark =P

re: operation coverup -> the diamond tread is an idea.  I've seen it both as chromme finish and as a laminate...  do you have a pic of the damage/sideart ?

will the side art look goofy/abruptly cut off at the bottom (better than waterdamage I imagine though...)

*shrug*  (see!?)

How about a foot rest plus kickplate ;)

if people are resting their feet down there... you know one of them will slip and kick it...

especially if it's a close call in *insert fighting game here* and they get huffy ;)

I don't have a digital camera for the pic. It is an asteroids deluxe[img]http://www.klov.com/images/A/gAsteroids_Deluxe.jpg

Was hoping someone may have a similar detail done to there project.  I like TazMan's idea of sheet metal from Lowe's.
