Token Dispenser
« on: September 02, 2005, 04:22:06 am »
Okay, I'm stumped. I thought it would be a simple idea to take an existing token change machine and rip out the bill validator so that I could use it simply to dispense tokens. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it would take a lot of work to wire it up with a simple button mechanism that when pressed dispenses me a handful of arcade tokens.

Except I can't seem to find a token dispenser either here or on Happ's webpage. I can find a lot of mechanisms to accept tokens, but none to spit them out. I'm starting to feel like a 3 year old wondering where babies come from.

Am I not searching correctly, or is there a reason I can't find such items?

You could also try a search on Ebay for Coin Changers.

I don't see any pricing on that site. Am I missing something? Note that I'm only curious, I'm not in the market for one or anything.

try using thier contact us link. I dont see any prices there either. the money value listed is how much money in quarters the machines will hold.

If all you want is a gadget that you push a button, and it gives you tokens, how about something like this

Or was the point to have an actual arcade token dispenser, that just handed them out?

Here is a small token dispenser on Ebay.

If you wanted to build your own, you would probably just need a hopper/dispenser and then build the rest.
Bitten by the cabinet bug... obsessing ever since.

Availability and cost may make this a DIY project. I just had the idea that since I'd be using tokens anyhow, why not have a dispenser of some kind for that added bit of reality.

IMO, there has to be working coin mechs on the machine. It almost ceases being an arcade the moment you no longer have to pump it with quarters/tokens. And just for convenience, I'd much rather not deal with any kind of money as tokens can substitute just fine.

So, I suppose one could just have a bucket of tokens nearby, but then again we could not go through all of the expense of buildign the machine in the first place. Some kind of token apparatus would just be another one of those neat features.

sales reps are there to answer questions about thier product... Id guess 80%  if not more of phone calls are NOT about wanting to purchase...but rather asking questions.  Never going to learn anything if you dont ask questions  ::)

Sales reps are real people with real jobs.
I'm not going to bother someone over my own curiosity.
Honestly I just don't care that much, I just thought someone
here might know how much they go for.

I think it would be neat to have one, but only if I could find a cheapie
and mod it myself. I would expect the new ones to be outrageous,
as all new arcade stuff seems to be. If anyone has a solid idea to
BYO, I'd love to hear about it.

I think the last changer we bought cost us about $2500, but it was brand new from the factory. Which sucks because it's the only machine in the store that doesn't actually show a ROI.

I don't remember how much they went for at the auction I went to last year, but they were nowhere near $1000.

Those prices are scary. Someone hold me. ;D

Actually, it can't be too tough to make something. For my purposes I don't need a bill validator or any logic circuits. I'm just looking to dispense some tokens.

I'm gonna look around for other items and try to customize something. I'll keep this post informed if I come up with anything.

Get something like this:

And fill it full of tokens.

HERE IT IS!

I have a Pachi-Slo machine purchased off ebay that has a unit inside that would be JUST what would be required.

It is a hopper and motor-driven circular device that turns and pulls up to 5 tokens per revolution out of the hopper which must hold 1000 tokens. (This is the device that pays tokens when you win.)

I would contact a Pachi-Slo refurbisher and ask about obtaining this removable part from a broken machine.

You could push a button or put in a bill to activate the unit. Problem would be the timing of the motor versus the number of tokens you would want dispensed. Of course if you aren't trying to dispense a fixed number, you just hold the button until you get what you want.

Great idea-maybe after I build the air hockey table, but only after the cabinet.

I will try to post a photo of it in the next few days if you like the idea.

for a small unit you can
mount in your own box or a really cool escalator unit:

http://asusainc.com/html/coin_hopperdh750u1.html

you see the escalator units at CEC sales counters that you
could mount in your wet bar etc.

Something like this could possibly be modified. It is made for US quarters.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Quarter-25-Coin-Hopper-Dispensor-Changer_W0QQitemZ7544435643QQcategoryZ46707QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

shouldnt be too hard, too bad "untested" or "as-is" on e-bay usually means "its broke"

How about using this.

Re-wire the switch and cut off the coin roll holders so that the tokens would just drop down to a shoot below.
