Is it hard to make a key for a coin door
« on: September 01, 2005, 09:53:33 pm »
I see a lot of coin doors being sold on ebay...but most of them are missing keys.  I wanted to pick one of them up but was wondering how hard it was (and expensive) to make a key for one of those locks.

It is very much hard to get a key for the lock you don't know. Yes, change the full lock with key on the door is the best way.

At the risk of sounding like a noob...how trivial is it to change out a lock?  Also, I don't see any locks listed on Happs site...do I have to special order them?

Swapping out a lock is no big deal.  A pair of pliers and a wrench should do it. (the wrench actually might be overkill)  Now if you had to drill out a lock, from the horror stories ive been told, thats not fun.  I don't know about ordering from happs, ive never done it before.  But look around here for part venders.  Iam sure someone will happily hook you up for a decent price.

Peale has some very nice locks...  :)  Paired sets with matching keys.  I have two on my Mortal Kombat.

Changing a lock takes about 90 seconds, half of which is taking the new lock out of the package.

Drilling a lock takes about 5 minutes, half of which is cleaning up the metal shavings afterwards.

You don't have to order them from happ's, they take standard cabinet locks available at any hardware store.

This has been a paid announcement. ;)

Ive heard of one horror story from a local operator that he had to call in for help and i took about 2 hours in the end.  Two guys takeing two hours, and it didn't help that they couldn't hold the drill strait!  On the other hand, guy's such a slacker, how he keeps the manager possition is beyond me.
