Mounting a trackball on x-arcade

Has anyone ever had a go at mounting a trackball on an x-arcade.
I am trying to think whether I should
1) cut a hole in my x-arcade and mount it internally
2) make a new control panel and mount it
3) make a new little box contraption for it and mount it in the space in between the monitor and the x-arcade or make and extenstion of the control panel and mount it infrom of that.
I think option 3 (the latter half of it) will be both the easiest and best result

Option 2 sounds like the most obvious solution. You then have the freedom to make it exactly how you want, rather than put it anywhere it might fit.
Option 3 sounds sounds like an exercise in frustration.

I have an x-arcade 2 player and just got a trackball - my plan is to make a new CP with the x-arcade parts so I can add my trackball and eventually a spinner just the way I want it (Plus I get to keep the easy x-arcade setup in MAME
)
Now all I need is the time to do it

Thats a good idea. My GF wasn't too thrilled about me getting an $100+ trackball so an explorer migh work, the only thing is the buttons, I wonder how I might be able to get around that.

Cool, I came to this forum to ask this exact question and now I don't have to!
This place rocks! Still not sure how to go about it but I love the amount of info here!
So many questions, so little patience....
