GP Wiz 49 way and administration buttons
« on: August 29, 2005, 03:28:33 pm »
For those of you who have implemented the GP Wiz 49 way interface, how many administrative buttons did you go with? I am about to drill into my menu panel above the rotating panels and I want to make sure I have everything covered without it looking like overkill.

I'm currently planning 1p and 1p credit buttons, 2p and 2p credit buttons, shift, Pause, Game Exit, Game Reset. I figure I could add shutdown to the panel by hitting shift and game reset, to save me one button.

That'll come out to 8 buttons on a 30" wide menu panel, which might be a little cluttered. I'm planning on improving the look by throwing in some differently shaped buttons from Happs for the administrative tasks.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this gameplan, either from those using or those not using the GP49 interface?

I opted to include an IPAC in my setup.

I'm going to use a Mini-Pac along with the GP Wiz, because that will allow me to use more buttons and to have trackball and spinner capabilities. Like your design, my administrative/menu panel will rest below the bezel (I went with a Rebirth-style rotating panel scheme). I'll need to do some testing when the wiring begins to determine what is best plugged into which encoder.

My game plan was to go...

1p, 1p coin,

I can't. I made a promise to Pixel that I'd wait until he's finished before showing mine. If he approves I will go ahead and post.

I've moved very slowly with progress but the woodworking should be completed in the next week or two. Then I attack wiring and then I'll take my time over the next couple months to finalize my artwork. I've done some stuff already but I'm going to try more designs before I go to print with it.

I have the GPWiz49 and I use almost the same admin buttons.  From left to right......

1P coin, 1P start... Game Exit, Shift, Pause, Game Start/Enter.... 2P start, 2P coin

Shifting the middle 4 buttons gives a few more admin options of Game Reset, Shift, Tab, and nothing for the last button yet.
