6-Button Layout and default mame buttons...
« on: August 27, 2005, 01:41:42 am »
OK - I am wiring up my CP with an I-Pac and trying to figure out what button should be 1SW1, 1SW2, 1SW3, etc etc up to 6.

I have a 6 button layout - 2 rows, 3 columns very typical from what I have seen on most mame cabs.
Should the top row of buttons from left to right be SW1, SW2, and SW3?  Or SW1, SW3, SW5?

Thanks

I have a similar question. Due to size restrictions, I must use two colunms of 3 buttons on my CP. Which of the following should I use?

1 2
3 4
5 6

or

1 4
2 5
3 6

I did mine as 123 across the top and 456 underneath.

Don't forget that you can remap controls in the game if things aren't as comfortable as you want.

For 2 colums, I would go for the first option. It put buttons 1 and 2 next to each other, and button 3 should be comfortable enough for the thumb.

I would then remap controls in Street Fighter games so that the left column was punch and the right coumn was kick.

If in doubt, buy some cheap chipboard and make a temporary CP in the desired layout and test it for a while.

This has been asked a lot.

For classics, I prefer

4 5 6
1 2 3

For Street Fighter:

1 2 3
4 5 6

Of course, you can re-map either one to use these buttons in MAME, so it's really just which one you play more of.
