Oscar Pro Spinner Settings
« on: January 05, 2003, 01:19:45 am »
Can someone please recommend the appropriate settings in the analog controls section of mame for the Oscar PRO (not the model 1,2,3 - there is a difference) spinner for the following two games:

1. Arkanoid
2. Tempest

Thanks,
Marco

Still hoping someone can assist.  Please let me know what you suggest for the Analog setting in Mame for both Speed and Sensitivity in the two games listed above.

thanks everyone,
Marco

I think its really a matter of personal preference and is dependant on what mouse driver your using and what OS.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Usually, you just use the highest setting that doesn't result in skipping/backspin.  If you're looking for the arcade-authentic settings, probably no one can give those unless they have the original cabs AND an Oscar Pro and can test them side by side.

Good luck.

Using Windows 98SE and standard Mouse driver.  I move mouse speed to max in windows, that helps a little.  I move spinner speed to 150 in Mame and sensitivity to 25.  That seems to be the best so far.  Moving sensitivity any more does not help and spinner speed above 150 (with a max of 255) actually seems counter productive.

Can all you Pro spinner users out there just check your settings and let me know what you have for these games.

Is there some kind of a test/benchmark program to use so that we could all run some tests and report our setups? Maybe we could just use a game, but since everyone has personal prefs, that may prove difficult.

Just a thought...

I think it's going to vary depending on lots of things, like OS, Mame version, possibly different between USB and serial Optipac as well.

My hardware: 700mhz Athlon, serial Optipac with USB upgrade pack, Oscar Pro, under Win2000 Pro

My settings:  Tempest - Dial Key/Joy speed: 20 - Sensitivity: 25% -This seems to be a good mix of speed/sensitivity but it's just my taste.  Haven't seen Tempest in an arcade since 1982.

Arkanoid - haven't tried it since I got the Pro, sorry...
