Cutting T-Molding to Length
« on: August 22, 2005, 09:41:59 pm »
OK, this is going to sound silly but how do you make a 90 degree cut when cutting t-molding to fit around the edges of your cab?

When you say 90deg do you mean perpendicular to the axis of the molding?

yeah, it's the first way - just simply cutting the piece to length.  I am laying it flat but I can't seem to make the cut perfectly square and I want to do it right...

I used a chisel.  Lay the t-molding flat on some wood, line the chisel up straight and tap it with a hammer.

Thanks for all the suggestions - anyone else have a method that requires less eyeballing and is more idiot-proof?

Do you have a t-square? or anything that' make a 90 deg angle?

If so, lay it flat on its back, trim off the barbed edge with a razor knife.  align an inside edge of the T-Square with the edge of the molding, move the t-square so the perpendicular piece is exactly where you want it, and run the razor knife along the perpendicular edge of the t-square.

No eyeballing, perfectly straight cut.

I use a pvc pipe cutter.  Not something I bought for t-molding, already had it.  Works great.
