OPTIPAC PROBLEM- AGGHRRR!
« on: August 22, 2005, 07:07:50 pm »
My cabinet is completely done....my control panel is completely wired and done...I have one more thing to do and i can finally be done...and..... My trackball wont work! AHH! I have an ultimarc 2 and 1/4 inch trackball with the ultimarc optipac. I have the optipac getting power from the ipac via the supplied cable, and the mouse buttons work....so I know its recieving power, but  when I move the ball my cursor wont move! the computer recognizes the serial mouse (im using a serial optipac) but for some reason the cursor wont move. I have checked all my wire connections and they are right, I dont know whats goin on! I just wanna finish the CABINET!!!! >:(

I had the same problem with my ultimarc trackball.  It was the wiring harnesses.  The wires weren't making contact.  Take a very small flathead screwdriver and push the wires further into the red harnesses.  You may have the same issue.

Do I push the wires inward or down towards the top of the ball?

Down toward the ball.  Take a close look at the connector.  There are little blades that cut past the insulation to make contact with the wire.  If the wire isn't pushed down far enough, the connection can loose contact.
