Mamewah and Joystick
« on: August 19, 2005, 11:57:45 pm »
Hi everyone.

I'm running mamewah 1.61 on windows xp home and using a logitech wingman digital extreme joystick.

I've used the joystick successfully with mame launched from dos, with turbomame front end, with mame32 front end, but I am having a little trouble with mamwah.

I can use the joystick to select games from the mamewah screen, but once the game is launched it no longer responds to the joystick.

I expect my problem is coming from my lack of understanding of the ini setup. I had trouble, but eventually got a custom layout, so I'm sure I can get this, I just need a nudge in the right direction.

There's a variable called "joystick" in the "Input Device Options" section of the mame.ini file.
Set it to 1, and you should be set.

Hm, the trick seems to have been to go to the mame.ini file that's in the mamewah directory and add the -joystick switch to the commanline format.

It would be easier to modify your \mame\mame.ini file accordingly.  Note this is a mame config issue and not mamewah...

Actually the .99 version of mame that I'm running doesn't have a miscellaneous options section in the mame.ini file.  It's set up with the ctrlr folder.  I looked in every ini file I could find and didn't see any joystick feilds.  What I needed to do was learn how this controller folder setup works.  The mame ini file I have in the mame directory only has a few path names in it.

That's interesting.  I haven't upgraded to .99 yet...

Mark,
What version of MAME are you using? i.e. MAME, MAME32, MAMEPP

If you backup your ini file in the MAME directory, and run "mame -cc" a new ini file will be created.

There is a joystick option about half way down under
