alternative to coin door
« on: August 19, 2005, 06:33:37 pm »
I built a cabinet from Mameroom last summer and I still have the 12  1/8" x 10" hole in the front of my cab..

I really don't need a coin door, but I would like to be able to cover the hole and still have easy access to it...

Anybody have some good alternatives to a coin door..?

Or I spose I could get a coin door for cosmetic purposes and skip the mech?

Happ Controls makes several models of "blank" or dummy coin doors.

you should really get a coin door even if you don't use it. It looks much better with one.

I agree that a coin door looks great.  I love the one in my cabinet.  If I didn't have a coin door though (or did not want to use one for some reason) I would maybe go with putting a PC Case like this one in the space http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144151
It has a nice glow and temp gauges on the door.  Plus the door opens up to give access to drive bays.  Just an idea.

The coin box will help you pay for your NEXT cab.

Just come home and put all the quarters you get into your cab.
As long as you don't cherrypick it, it will add up fairly quickly.

I like that idea, right now I just use a bucket for my coins which just looks stupid.

or of course you could hook up the mech and make your friends pay to use it  ;D that will help you save for your next one  ;)

What I did ('cause i screwed up the hole cut) is take the side panel of my pc case (painted it black) and some hinged and made a door.  Super easy access and it looks nice for not being an actual coin door.  I can always cut the metal and put a coin door in when I get one.

I also thought about adding a plexi window in the door with some cold cathode lights and show off my hardware inside.

A subwoofer might be made to fit there.
Bitten by the cabinet bug... obsessing ever since.
