Mounting a Happs 3" Trackball Question
« on: January 02, 2003, 11:40:50 pm »
Im about to place my order for a Happs 3" Trackball.  I plan on mounting it on a 5/8 MDF board + 1/8 lexan control panel.  Do i need to get the trackball mounting kit also?  or is it not necessary? I dont want a high ball.

This is the kit: http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/55110100.htm
This is the trackball, blue translucent: http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/560100xx.htm

Thanks,
Jeff

The kit is very helpful.

I routed out a hole in the top of the MDF for the mount so that the artwork and lexan were all flush -- other people have put the mounting kit on top of the lexan.

There are a bunch of threads on here about different trackball mounting techniques -- they should pop up in a search.

I bought the 3" high lip (Golden Tee) ball from Happs (not the high ball).  I routed out 1/16" from the top of the CP and mounted the ball using the Clear Zinc mounting kit.  At that point the trackball housing was approx 1/8" above the zinc mounting kit.  Added my overaly, added my lexan, and wa-la, perfectly flush.  Not sure how the standard ball will do height wise, but this was perfect....
