« on: April 26, 2002, 02:39:21 pm »
I have an IPAC and reprogrammed the shift key to another button on my control panel (1SW8).

Are you using ArcadeOS as your frontend?

Yes I am.  But Player1+Player2 in arcadeos doesn't do esc, because player 1 starts the game.  I also disabled this in arcadeos's config by commenting it out with a # but it still didn't work.

Ideas...?

Things to try:

With the I-Pac unplugged and a regular keyboard connected, does pressing 1 and then 2 cause MAME to exit?  If so, look at your MAME or Arcade OS settings.

If not, set some other shift functions on the I-PAC and see if these work?  If not, your I-PAC may not be accepting the programming or remembering the settings.  Is the MAME/ALT jumper set to ALT?

If this doesn't yield a solution, I recommend E-mailing Andy Warne.  He should be able to help.

Thanks for the tip.. Same thing with the keyboard, so I figured out it's an Arcadeos problem.

When I configured the shift keys in Arcadeos to start1+start2=esc to be no, it worked fine for that game I selected.

Once I go back to arcadeos, the config gets set back to yes.  I even tried to update the config manually via notepad and still no luck.

This is really starting to get to me.

Maybe a long shot, but you don't happen to be using winMAME w/ ArcadeOS?  I've noticed some freaky behavoir when using winMAME with AOS.

AOS doesn't save changes to mame.ini, but that shouldn't have anything to do with your specific problem.

When using AOS, always make sure to use dos MAME.  Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply, Yup using Dos MAME.  Booting to arcadeos directly.

Can't understand it cause whenever I change other settings within the menu of arcadeos they save fine....  but whenever I change this.. it goes right back the next time...  Weird..

Have arcadeos not load and then manually edit the arcadeos.cfg file manually and change:
#Start 1+2=Escape
start12esc=1

to:

#Start 1+2=Escape
start12esc=0

I tried that yesterday, but it didn't work.
I'll try it again this afternoon to be sure.

Thanks

I have always had a really tough time getting Aos to take config changes, sometimes the only way I can get things to change is to remosve Aos completly and re-install it.

ARGGGGGGHHHH!!

I tried to update the cfg file outside of arcadeos but no luck.

Next I tried to re-install Arcadeos and that still didn't work!!!!!

If I change the arcadeos config within arcadeos and change the shift keys so start1+2=Esc to no.  Then start up a game, start1 + start2 will NOT do the ESC just like I want, but once I exit back to arcadeos and select the game again, start1 + start2 performs ESC..

This is so annoying......  I'm beginning to think I should give up on arcadeos and go with a Windows front end.....

Anyone else have any ideas???????

I think Aos put some of the config files in you MAME directory also and maybe other places too,  it can be very trick to get them all. I would suggest removing all the mame files and the Aos and start from scratch.  I'm asuming this is on a cabinet, so you might want to clean off everything (don't forget to save any autoexec.bat and other dos config stuff if you had any trouble geting things to work the first time, this is from experince ::) )and start from a clean HD.  I've had to do this a few time also.
