Mortal Kombat 2 joysticks

Anyone remember what that game used?  I seem to recall 8 way, short throw, with a ball top...but I'm probably wrong.

Can anyone name a joystick being sold (Happs, etc) that is similar to that type of joystick?

I remember seeing MK machines with bat top joys, not ball tops.... Most of the machines I've seen were probably Happ Supers or Competitions, but god only knows how many times they had been replaced.

Pretty much all the 90s fighter games used bat-top Supers, Competitions, or Ultimates.  Supers or Comps are usually preferred over Ultimates.

But they were leaf style and not microswitch, right?  I seem to recall them having a short throw (for doing the B-B-F moves like Raiden's "superman").

Nope, those were all micro.  Leaf sticks actually tend to have a longer throw.  edit- This was bugging me, so I went and checked.  As it turns out, Supers and Competitions both have a longer throw than a Wico Leaf stick (at least when compared to the short-handled Wico).  Learn something new everyday!

Dedicated MK2 machines came from the factory with red bat-top style sticks. I needed new sticks on my MK2 anyway so I made sure to get red sticks instead of the replacement black someone had put on.

They definitely weren't leaf sticks.  They were Supers, Comps, or maybe Ultimates.  My guess would be red Comps.

stock/dedicated Mortal Kombat 2 Kabinets came with Competitions, modified with gold microswitches and possibly a different/tighter spring
