Does anyone manufacture "brown" pushbuttons?
« on: August 14, 2005, 02:04:58 pm »
I've been looking all around, and I haven't found an manufacturer that makes brown colored arcade pushbuttons. Does anyone here have a possible resource for these, or am I simply out of luck?

I don't remember ever seeing any.
You might be able to have a custom run made, but the price would be prohibitive, and you probably have to buy ALOT of them.

I've never seen or heard of brown pushbuttons myself.

Short of having a run made like NoOne suggested, I think the only way you'll see a brown button is if you paint it yourself.   Is there a brown Krylon Fusion paint?  That's meant for plastic specifically..... I know people have painted buttons before with less than perfect results, but I think it's your only bet.

You could try Rit fabric dye on white buttons.

It does indeed dye plastic, but I have heard that getting the color you are looking for can be a challenge.

the only place i have seen them is arcades, ironically.

having an intrest in minature (28mm scale to be precise) moddeling i can tell you it wouldnt be incredibly hard (and alot cheaper than having a run made by a company) to make a mould of the parts of a pushbutton you want brown and then casting them out of resin that has had a brown colour addadative added to it.

apart from that well, you could try painting or dying white ones, but that would probabally yeild dubious results

Tom at Specialty Plastics makes Nintendo-sized buttons, which are just barely smaller than standard arcade buttons.  He might be able to do a set of those in brown for you.

Kelsey painted the joystick he used on his Galaga bartop and it looks great from what I can tell.

I can't imagine painting works out anywhere near as well on a button as it would on a stick.

The button has to slide smoothly, and I figure painting it would stop that. It would make the button slightly larger, so it wouldn't fit in as nice into its chamber, plus the paint to paint rubbing would cause sticking issues.

You could get clear buttons and paint the inside brown.

You could get clear buttons and paint the inside brown.  This would give a clean finish and prevent the paint from rubbing off.  You could also illuminate clear buttons to brown.  I think a red and a green LED would give you brown.  The buttons on my cab rotate colors including brown, but I'm using RGB LED's with a custom board.

That's a good idea!   :o
