Does M.A.M.E support 8-Liner games?
« on: August 14, 2005, 06:22:47 am »
I have a Cherry Master board and would love to incorporate the game into my MAME cabinet.  I have a program that runs by itself in Windows, but it won't run in MAME because it's not really a rom.  Do such 8-Liner roms exist?

I know this sounds crazy, but what would I need to complie the rom myself?  I have the board and can remove the chips.  Would I just need a ROM reader?

They're considered gambling games, and as such are not incorporated into Mame, nor will ever be.

There is a fruit machine emulator, but I don't remember what it's called.  Check Caeser.

I've looked at MAGE and a few others out of UK.  It looks as if it's in it's early stages.  I'd love to know how to edit/fix roms that don't work.  The Cherry Master roms that are supported don't work.  Does anyone know where to start in updating the emulator/roms?  Thanks.

In some states 8liners are illegal to even possess in any form. If your state was like that and you had those games on your computer the state could legally sieze your computer and put you in jail!

Not too worried about that.  I live in Spain and then I'll be in Texas, so I'm good to go.

What's an 8liner?
Proper capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse, and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

Why does MAME stay away from the gambling machines?

Is it more likely to bring heat, or just that they don't feel like messing with the massive number of em? I figure the heat thing, as they obviously aren't afraid of throwing emulation toward useless masses (Mahjong & Quiz).

It's just a question of volume and gambling games were an easy and logical  place to cut off.  However, things change.  :)

Suppose to be San Antonio, but who knows, that may change.

MAGE looks promising, but I don't know much about tweaking roms/programs to get things working...

The official stance was that they were just random chance games rather than games involving skill, but they added them back in with 99u2.
