Very confused about Guncon
« on: August 14, 2005, 04:11:34 am »
Before everybody gets angry about yet another thread about Guncon, let it be known that I have tried to do my research. Tried, and failed.

I have been looking into light-guns for my cab since I first started. But, at the time, the main option was the actlabs guns, which are too expensive. The guncon guns are starting to put a faint glimmer of hope back into my cab though. I'm just not sure about what exactly I need to do for my setup (how to hook it up, which gun to use, etc).

My display is a 24" Apex TV, running composite but capable of S-Video. My video card is a Radeon 9550. My computer is running W2K (I'm not sure, does it work with W2K?). I'm looking for compatibility with the most games (including NES if possible). If I use composite, do I need any external circuits?

I want a gun that is hopefully easy to find and has good kickback. Kickback is one of my favorite features in a real arcade game. Do they make guns with true solenoid action? I am aware that you have to wire the guns to an external power source for this; it shouldn't be a problem for me. How many games support kick; does it just kick when you pull the trigger or does it pay attention to ammo and such like in the arcade? Also, something with some weight behind it is good (or something that can be retro fitted with weight).

Thanks for the help! ;D
