I-Pac / Mini-Pac Question
« on: August 13, 2005, 01:50:58 pm »
I have everything hooked up and all the switches seems to work.

BUT whatever switch I program to be the ESC, it will not function.
In the configuration program, hitting the ESC from the keyboard shows up but the button I programmed will not.  If I reprogram that button to something else, it will work; that at least tells me its not a hardware problem.

Another question on the 'shift' key, my understanding is that when the 'shift' key is pressed + another key, the 'shift' function for that switch/button (ie another keycode) will be generated.
True?  If so, that also doesnt seem to work. ???

Thanks for any clue on what I have missed.

Odd, programming seems to be working, since you can re-program away from it and get it working.

Are you using the correct sofware, which for the minipac would be here?:  http://www.ultimarc.com/winipac.html

The jumper is default (MAME).

The ESC part still doesn't work.  I'm going to try and  the ALT setting and reprogram all the swithes I need manually.

Still doesn't work.

Is what I'm doing to reset the switch keycode correct?

If I wanted P2-SW8 to be ESC when pressed,
click on the 'P2-SW8' in the configuration program and
then press 'ESC' when asked what key to assign to it.

Correct?

Isn't the default escape key sequence done by holding the Player 1 & 2 start buttons?

Sounds right.

Can you confirm you have the correct software.  The Minipac doesn't work with the Interactive Panel Designer, last I heard.

See my post above, you should have the software with the purple buttons.

Yea thats not the version I have.  Its the new one with the panel designer.
I'll try and download the old version and give it a try tonight.

Thanks

Non-working shift functions indicate one or more stuck buttons, or mis-wired.
There are 2 versions of the board. The one with jumpers is the older type and needs the older WinIPAC program to re-program it.
The later board has no jumpers, and has a self-test LED which can be used to easily locate any stuck connections. This uses the later program, above.
But, ESC (hold start1 and press start2) should work without re-programming so a stuck connection seems to be the problem.

Andy, any idea when this change was implemented?  I need to update my infamous chart: http://www.mameworld.net/tigerheli/encoder/main.htm#I-PAC_Software_Compatibility (or I can just say "with Jumpers" and "without Jumpers"

I tried the older version of the software last night and it works ALOT better. :)

On question though...do I need a USB cable in order to "Program" it?
It times out when I try to do it in the software.

BTW: I got the MiniPac awhile ago 9-10 months.  Just got around to doing my cab.  Will be posting early pics of it later.
