KeyWiz loading times under Win98 and XP verified.
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:08:48 pm »
I had a chance to do some real world testing with the KeyWiz uploader software under Win98SE and Win2K and wanted to post the results.

First off, the tests seem to confirm what everyone else has previously reported.  I used a prototype KeyWiz Max encoder, and actual program execution seemed slower under WinXP.  (In other words, I think the WinXP tests were done under a 5400 RPM HD and the Win98 tests were done under a 7200 RPM HD, but the slowdowns seemed to be in program execution, not program loading, which confirms what RandyT has previously posted about the software.)

The system used was the same AMD XP2800 Barton Processor running 640M of RAM.

Under Win98SE, I used an established (about a year since last reload) version of Win98SE with unofficial SP2, with a good many background tasks running (AVG Anti Virus, AutoShutdown, Motherboard Monitor, Webshots, etc) on an 80 Gb Seagate 7200 RPM HD about 60% loaded with programs.  In other words, the Win98SE times would probably be a little better if I had less background tasks running, but probably would not be worse.

Under WinXP, I used a very fresh installation (not even optimized video drivers) with no other programs installed on a Maxtor 14 Gb (5400 RPM ?) HD.  The XP times might be better with optimized drivers and tweaked services configurations, and would probably be worse with more background tasks running.

The test consisted of going to a DOS prompt and running DosKey and then running
