Yes, but how many of us figured it out manually, and how many used some online tool? :)

I did it letter by letter, although most of the words only required the first letter and knowing what "20" is to figure out what the word was.

I actually broke it down into columns in Excel and did character conversions from there. So maybe it's halfway cheating, but it was still pretty darn manual.

Poonga keeps saying that the hexi-yoke-date-thingy might not have been the teaser at all, so are we supposed to continue searching around the forums in the hopes that we find the elusive teaser??

Well, am i right?  Saint doesn't confirm that it is the teaser, just hints that it is :)

Yes, but how many of us figured it out manually, and how many used some online tool? :)

I used calc.exe.  I know the decimals of all alpha characters of the "american standard code for information interchange"  by heart.  It's a matter of using calc to convert the hex to decimal then for me :)  My many years of programming in BASIC using chr...

Heh, I used calc.exe also. I didn't trust my memory of the ascii codes, so I used the ALT-num-pad trick...

Good :)

Heh.  I just remember key demical values and add from there mostly.  But I like that technique, less thinking involved.

space=32
0=48
A=65
E=69
M=77
S=83
Z=90
a=97
e=101
m=109
s=115
z=122

Odd ones I know off hand, i.e. all the ones important in old school text parsing and dos programming.
BEL=7
TAB=9
NL = 10
CR=13
esc=27

Heh, I think it is safe to give away the code now.  Between saint's and my reply you should  have the tools to figure it out.  ...and AlanS17 spelling out the acronym :)

Put "american standard code for information interchange" into google and click I'm Feeling Lucky :)

I wouldn't have a clue how to work it out - so what does it say?

Understandable, it is using the "american standard code for information interchange", not the australian one ;)

Know where you're going doesn't matter if you still don't know how to get there. How many people can count in hex? I figured that would be the stumper for most people and that mentioning ASCII wouldn't be a big deal.

True, but you google the thing and you get a lookup table, no need to know how to count in hex then, just find the match.

I used my Little Orphan Annie decoder pin.  It told me the release date then it told me to drink my Ovaltine! ;)

I won't tell you what it says, but I'll tell you how to figure it out without beeking a geek! :)

Here's the code you want to crack:

Code: [Select]
54686520466c6967687420596f6b652052656c65
61736520646174652069732053657074656d6265
7220313074682c2032303035

Here's an exed-out version of the sentence from jerryjanis' post:

Code: [Select]
xxx xxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxx xxxx xx xxxxxxxxx xxxx, xxxx
It's simple substitution.  The first thing I figured out was that "20" = "space" which is pretty obvious from comparing the code to the exed-out sentence.

The other bit of information you have to work with is that the message will tell you the flight yoke release date.   With those 4 things, you should be able to crack the code in no time.... at least the vast majority of it and then one important specific character can be easily deduced.

Have fun! :)

Right, because ", xxxx" would have to be ", 2005".

Well gee, I don't know how much I can say without giving it away?  :P

It's one long hex string, but every ASCII character is 2 hex numbers in length. That's not really giving anything away, though. You could figure that out by counting everything between spaces.

The hardest part is converting the hex to decimal (unless you seriously cheat and use a hex -> ASCII code table).
