Why do people want two LS-30 joysticks?
« on: August 09, 2005, 04:53:38 pm »
Ok, this is probably a dumb question but .....

Why do people want two LS-30 joysticks rather than just one?

Obviously one would believe a person would want two of these joysticks so they can play multiple player games (two players at the same time) with them )... is that correct?  Or is it because some games which use the LS-30 joystick need two joysticks to play in single player mode for some reason?

I might be apble to acquire one of these joysticks and was wondering if I wanted to build a new control panel, then would one LS-30 be enough to be single player LS-30 type games ...... or do I need two joysticks?

Well, yeah, most people want two LS-30s so they can play games like Ikari Warriors, Victory Road, etc, since many of the rotary games were two player simultaneous games.  I can't think of any single player dual rotary joystick games..

If you wanted to play any of those games solo, sure, all you need is one joystick.  You should also pick up some sort of an interface (i.e. Druin's interface).  However, if you're not familiar with rotary style games, you might want to fire up Mame and check some of them out and see if setting up a rotary will be worth the effort for you.

I for one can't wait to trick out my 49ways with Floyd's rotary hack!

Yeah I heard about Druin's board .....   Originally I was going to try to add a pair  of LS-30's on to my control panel but it will not work since the panel is wood and I would need to route out a bunch of space. (ie: too much work).

Although since I might have a deal on one LS-30, then I was thinking about getting it in case I build that ever elusive second control panel one day soon  ;D

Anyway, I would only play  Ikari, Guerrilla War, etc... as single player only, so I guess if the LS-30 turns out to be a good deal then I might get it.  One is better than none .... right  :P

Most of those games are really hard with only one player- they were really designed for two.  Of course, with unlimited credits, that won't stop you like it did back at the 7-11.
