I run alot of my vertical games at 288x240. I have an ArcadeVGA running into a standard res arcade monitor. NO HARDWARE STRETCH.

It fills out the monitor perfectly.

Let me know how it works for you.

peace

My question is, is there a way around this without having to adjust the screen every time i want to play a different game?, would Hardware Stretch sort this out?
Have a look at this post in the monitor FAQ in this forum.

Is there a program about that just changes all vertical based games to a res that fills the screen out and leaves all other game types alone?. As doing this manual through mame would take forever??

Yes, that's exactly what the Mamewah / ArcadeVGA Res tool is supposed to do.  Did the tool generate the wrong resolution for your vertical games (you can verify the correct res by looking at the rom loading screen in MAME)?

If I remember correctly there are two version of that program; Minwah's and Andy Warne's.  If the one you used generated incorrect .ini files then you should try the other and report the bug.

I found the only way around this problem was to set all vertical games to 640x480 resolution. Not the best solution but it seems to be the only one that works for me. I find I tend to play more horizontal games so it's a small compromise to make.
Ideally it would be nice to have two cabinets one with a vertical screen and one horizontal. Only problem is my partner already refers to my one as the other woman so chances of that happening are pretty slim.  ;)

I cant seem to get the Mamewah res tool to work, in the file drop down list, the 'Generate ini's' is always grayed out. How do i get around this, i have selected where the mame32 exe, roms folders etc. are located
