Question about Oscar Mouse Hack

I just bought a never used Oscar mouse hack but as I look at it, I realize it wasn't quite what I expected.

It actually came with the optical sensors attached.    Is this how Oscar mouse hacks are done?  I figured it would be something I could attach to the connector coming out of my trackball, but it appears that it is acutually intended to replace the innards of my trackball.

The only problem I foresee is that the boards that the sensors are soldered onto aren't the same size or shape as those in my Betson TB.

Anyway, since oscarcontrols is "closed" right now, I can't even go online to look at what his page says about his mouse hacks.  Any info from those of you who have these?

Well, the pictures on that page were more of what I thought an "oscar mouse interface" was like.  It's hooked up to the pins coming out of the trackball whereas mine has the optical sensors attached

Sounds like maybe you got one (two?) of Oscar's optic boards instead of an interface.

It's definitely a mouse hack.  It just happens to have the optic boards attached.

And just to note, I'm not really complaining, I'm just confused.

Hard to see the "optic boards" in your pic, but it almost looks like they're empty of circuits and components except for the optic sensors.  If that's the case, why not just cut the boards to fit and replace the ones that are currently in your trackball?  You can send the old ones to me. 

Or, desolder the wires from the optics on the boards that came with your mouse hack and solder them to the optics on your existing boards.

Oscar's mouse hacks come with pin headers where the gray wires are soldered to the board.
From there you run wires to the header for the trackball end of things.

The optic boards, and gray wire that you have with that are not part of Oscar's standard mouse hack.

To get it running, you need to cut the optic boards off the mouse hack, and run the wires to your trackball.
There will be a +5v, a gnd, and two colored wires that run to each optic card on the trackball.
If your axis comes out swapped in Windows, reverse the two colored wires.

This might explain it.  He must have had Oscar/Kelsey put these together special for his needs:

bought this to hook up 2 home built spinners (which I never built)  so it is new and has never been used.
