Connecting Imperial trackball to Optipac?
« on: December 30, 2002, 02:31:34 pm »
I was lucky enough to win two Imperial 3" non-PS2 trackballs in an auction, one blue and one red so they'll be perfect for Marble Madness on one of the control panels I'm making for my cab.

However, the wiring looks to be different from the Happs trackball.

Does anyone know the pinouts or have a diagram for these trackballs?

Thanks!

Have you checked the optipac site? If Andy doesn't have them posted email him. He's been great about answering questions I've asked him.

I did a mouse hack on an Imperial trackball and had to determine the circuit diagram for myself to complete the hack.   I have posted that information at

http://www.members.shaw.ca/bakaye/tballhack.htm

This shows the actual circuit.   I think if you are connecting to an optipac you will find that the happs and the imperial have the same connections.

Thanks so much BobA, I'll give that a try as soon as they arrive.

I found your previous posting about this WAY back in July, I wish the search function worked slightly better.     :)

If they still have the six pin molex plug, the wiring there is the same as happ's (and wico's) trackballs.

 _____
/     \                             <--------- angled corners at top
|1 2 3|
|4 5 6|
-------

If you look into the molex plug, the wires should be connected to a ipac as such (as numbered above):

1: X2   (green)
2: Y2   (blue)
3: Y1   (brown)
4: ground   (black)
5: +5v   (red)
6: X1   (yellow)

The trackball should be set so the wires come out of the bottom right corner, or else you'll need to switch the wires.
