Grommets Grommets where are the Grommets?
« on: August 06, 2005, 11:33:06 pm »
Anyone know where I can find a grommet for 3/4 inch MDF that will accept an RCA plug? I have found a few that will fit 3/4 size but they are all like an inch hole or such.  Much to big to an RCA or component plug.

Can you install some sort of 1/4" shim on the inside?

Try these.  You see them on fancy computer desks.  You'll still need to have some clamp for the cable on the inside.

Get a grommet to fit 1/8". Cut a larger hole in your opening. Cut a hole the size you're looking for into a metal plate. Attach the metal plate to the hole. Tada.

I am having the same problem. I think I'm going to get one of the grommets designed for metal panels, cut it in half, and epoxy one half to each side of the MDF panel. I'm using a rubber-coated cable clamp on the inside to prevent tension on the outlet box inside. (My cabinet's power comes from a heavy gauge line cord to an outlet box on the interior. A UPS is plugged into the outlet box, then everything inside -- computer, USB hubs, monitor, etc. -- is plugged into the UPS. Well, actually into a Bits Limited SmartStrip which is plugged into the UPS.)
