Depends on what you want to use it for.  If you want to use it for playing Arkanoid, then you are all set.  If you want to use it to play Tempest or Omega Race, your experience wont be very good.

This spinner from Happ is known as a 'Geared' spinner.  Tempest uses a weighted spinner.  Weighted spinners spin freely with one spin(IE multple revolutions for 1 spin from the hand).  Geared spinners only move when they are turned(will only move if it is being turned).  If you spin a geared spinner and let go, it will stop almost immediately after you let go.

Cheers Elfman.
Is it just Arkanoid then or are there any other games more suited to a geared spinner. If it's just arkanoid I don't think I'll bother it's just there's a place in the UK selling them for

My two cents...

If you really want a spinner, invest in either the Tornado from Slickstick or wait on an Oscar.  The price on that spinner from Happ is too high to just play that one set / style of games.

We're using a Tornado in our cab - works great for both Arkanoid, Tempest, Discs of Tron, etc.

I've always wondered why nobody's come up with a dual purpose spinner.  One that is geared, but with a clutch to pull off the gears and then use as a 'tempest spinner'

I just can't rationalize the cost of a spinner that only allows me to play Tempest -or- Arkanoid well.

Isnt't it possible to increase the sesitivity of the "free running" spinners and then hol d the knob in your hand and turn just a little (instead of turning it like crazy...)  to play games like Arakanoid (and Pong :P) ?

Thought that would be possible ?

Yes it is possible, but the accuracy is is a little off and just doesn't quite behave the same as a geared spinner. You really have to have a light touch when playing Arkanoid with a weighted spinner.  With sensitivity adjustements, I suppose you could get something comparable.

I say, if your favorite game of all time is Arkanoid, then get a geared spinner.  If it is just another game you play once in a while, then just use a Tornado or an Oscar.
