key wiz eco 2 no solder wiring help
« on: August 03, 2005, 09:32:14 am »
I plugged a 40 pin IDE ribbon cable onto my keywiz eco 2 "no solder version". I think clipped the other end off of the IDE cable and started stripping th ends of the wires. There aer 40 VERY small wires on this ribbon, and I'm not quite sure if I am doing this right at all. The info that came with with the keywiz did not have that much on using the IDE ribbon, any info will help. Do 2 wires = 1 input on the keywiz? thanks in advance, i searched and found nothing

Do 2 wires = 1 input on the keywiz?

No.

Here's how the 40-pin cable works;

Align the connector so the red striped cable is to the left.  The red marked wire is +5v (don't strip this one...tape it so it can't short against anything... unless you need it for something)

The next wire is the contact above the +5v.  The next one after that is the contact directly to the right of the +5v line, and so on.

There are a number of ground lines that can be used, but these are all common on that board and will be common to all of the switches, so you may uses any or all of them.

Wiring - See http://www.mameworld.net/tigerheli/encoder/eco2/eco2.htm

As Randy said - if you consider the red wire as 1 with the wires going 1,2,3,4,5,6 to the left then they go to the 40 pin connector and thus to the KeyWiz Eco connector as

2 4 6 8 . . . 40
1 3 5 7 . . . 39

Plenty - http://www.mameworld.net/tigerheli/encoder/shiftkeys.htm

But - you are thinking of the shazaaam! feature the way an I-PAC works.  Your easiest solution is to mount a separate button on the panel (or hidden) and wire it to the Shazaaam! terminal then press it and Button1 to escape rather than 1Pstart and button 1 to escape.

If you REALLY don't want an additional button on your panel, you can do it by wiring it up as I mention on the reference page under "I-PAC compatibility mode" but you will need a couple of diodes or one of RandyT's adapters.

how do you get one w/ the IDE header attached?  I couldn't find any on their website that came this way - do you have to specify it when ordering?

It's in the drop down box on the order page, with header adds like $3.00 to the cost.

And as mentioned in a different thread previously, I chose to use a bunch of old 4 pin header CDROM sound cables in place of an IDE ribbon cable.

I found that much easier to work with.....YMMV.

GP-Wiz49 Eco no solder wiring help
« Reply #7 on: September 16, 2005, 06:44:20 pm »
I just got a GP-Wiz49 Eco and I'm trying to figure out the wiring. Here's a pic of how my brain thinks it works.
Can anyone confirm that this drawing is correct?

Close.  The far left wire on the ribbon will actually go to the bottom left hand corner pin on the encoder and the far right wire on the ribbon will go to the top right hand corner pin on the encoder.  So you are just one off on all of your labels.

You mean I should flip the cable over, so the red stripe is at the bottom? Wouldn't that give exaclty the same results as what I've got?

Anyone want to make a few bucks and build a wiring harness for this and the GPWiz 49?

I think that would help people out tremendously - especially newbies like myself who are trying to learn wiring 101 the hard way.  - but I guess that would take the fun out of learning :(

Ah, I am addicted to this hobby now!
