Are These Good Quality Controls
« on: August 02, 2005, 09:36:43 pm »
HI

I'm new to the whole mame thing and im loving it. I just finished builing my mame cab today and i need to set up the control panel. I found this setup at Dream Arcades to be the cheapest controls
http://www.dreamarcades.com/partssets/premium.shtml
Does anybody know if these joysticks and buttons are as good as the happs and ultimarcs

thanks

p.s. Anybody have any suggestion for what colors i should paint the Mame Cab  or any theme.

thanks

I have one of those sets from them.  I have not installed them yet, but they seem to be on par with my Happs Super sticks.

Also, you can probably save a few bucks if you check their ebay auctions.  They always have those same sets, in a variety of colors.  Be aware that they have auctions for thier "cheaper" sets as well, the ones with the built in microswitches.  I have some of them too.  They are ok, but the others are higher quality.

thanks stobe
ill go with the better quality for like 10 xtra

i email dream arcades he told me
"The microswitches are Acermake brand. They are better quality than most
imported switches, like the one's used by x-arcade. They should like Cherry
switches, but have a little firmer feel."

anybody have any info on these Acermake brand.

No, but a lot of people on the board complain about the X-arcade switches, so I don't consider that a very good sign.

Bob Roberts sells them for 10/$9.00. http://homearcade.org/BBBB/parts.html

I've seen them for as little as .80 each, but I can't remember where.

It's not a matter of quality really, but noise.  Any switch you get will probably WORK just fine, but cherrys are just considered the best quality AND not as noisy as some switches.

I personally can't stand loud micros, so I always use Cherry switches.  If that doesn't bother you, you might be ok with others.

If you can't stand any noise, you need leaf switches ;)

Just to clarify, our microswitches are a lot nicer than the X-arcade one's. I've never had a problem with these sticks, everyone likes them when compared to Happs Supers.
If you buy them and don't like them I'll issue you a full refund, you'll just have to pay to send them back to me. I'll even refund your original shipping fee.

I ordered blue buttons, and quickly sent them back...got excellent customer service and a prompt refund.
The buttons, in my opinion, were harder to depress than I would like, and I felt that finger fatigue would be an issue.  Like they said, try them yourself, if you don't like them, I can asure you they will give you a full refund!
